We want Iron Maiden – yeah, I know no requests Mike
*Gives you the angry face.*
SLAYER! why is there still no slayer!
Oh shit, it’s The Hulk. I’m not Loki.
Hell yeah another gh3 song!
Now give us slow ride lol
Now give us Through the Fire and Flames…. lol
Slow Ride? Whoa there, take it easy pal!
Nice one — made me laugh out loud (I hate typing lol).
does anyone know why they stopped with only one lamb of god song? ANY one of Lamb of God’s several dozen songs would be an awesome addition to RS. Yeah I know they came out with the Avenged Sevenfold song pack which was nice, but it seems like every time they come out with something even remotely “heavy” they compensate later by soming out with a months worth of softie stuff. I’m not knockin the clash or the strokes as bands, but frankly I could die a happy man never learning to play their music. This is not a request for more LoG music. Just a query as to why rocksmith seems averse to “heavy” music. Especially considering that among my many guiter-playing friends, they all agree that they would rather learn to play the music they like, and they like heavier stuff. I’ve never in my 26 years of life met a guiter player who WANTS to play the strokes, or the clash, or blind melon, or *shudder* Nickelback. They wanna play Metallica, Iron Maiden, Asking Alexandria, Lamb of God, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Slipknot, blah blah blah. According to the Xbox Live User Ratings, Avenged Sevenfold Pack and Redneck – Lamb of God are among the highest rated DLC for RS. While Nickelback enjoys being near the bottom of the list (THANK YOU XBOX USERS).
Does anyone have any insight into why RS claims to strive for “variety” when all they come out with is softie poppy alt rock turd stew?
Otherwise I would like to say, on a more positive note, that RS still rules the music gaming genre and regardless of a severe lack of music I actually want to play, it’s still my favorite game right now. I hope my Xbox lives long enough for me to ace Cliffs of Dover.
The reason no forum allows people to request songs is because the volume would be astronomical. There’s a reason for that. That reason is that RS continues to not give a crap what it’s players want to play. We wouldn’t request so much if at any point our requests were honored. If Rock Band can do it, so can RS.
Not defending Nickelback or anything, but just one of their albums sold more copies than all of Lamb of God’s combined.
You say they “don’t give a crap” about giving people what they want to play, but at the end of the day Ubisoft is a business and they gotta go where the money is. Sales figures say Nickelback and The Strokes are more popular than Lamb of God.
I understand that Ubisoft is a business. I also mentioned that the user ratings for Lamb of God vastly outweigh the user ratings for Nickelback. My primary point was that Ubisoft doesn’t seem to notice. They do what’s popular by the music people listen to on the radio, not what people want to play. A successful business appeals to it’s customers. Ubisofts customers have spoken, time and time again. They are not asking for what’s coming out.
Without actually looking it up I’m quite sure that Lady Gaga has sold more albums than a great deal of rock/metal bands. That doesn’t mean that any guitar player on earth gives a crap about Lady Gaga or her music. This game is supposed to be about the guitar. Not popularity. Ubisoft has many other franchises that they maintain and I doubt that Rocksmith is a tremendous drain on their books. Even if they decided to release some slightly less popular music.
Lamb of God may not top the charts among the masses (who generally have no appreciation of musical integrity) but they have great talent and guitar work. Again though, I’m not trying to specifically advocate more Lamb of God. Rather a greater variety of heavy music as it is a legitimate genre. A genre that is particularly more popular among guitar players. Guitar players are the people who play rocksmith. Not the people who listen to chart-toppers. Ubisoft must recognize that their fanbase for RS, by the very nature of the game, is not necessarily popular.
The question becomes, does RS want to be popular among everybody? Or be popular among the people who actually play the game? Because it’s users are crying out for rock left and right. I’ve been around a few (to say the least) forums dealing with RS. I’ve seen a lot of people suggesting a lot of music. I’ve never seen anyone suggest any of the DLC that’s come out this year. Or most of the other DLC that’s come out period. The only things I’ve seen people ask for that have actually been released are Avenged Sevenfold and Pantera.
I’m sure there are people out there who want to play less heavy music than that. But I refuse to believe that that population is greater than the population that wants to play heavy rock. The user ratings speak for themselves. Redneck still tops several DLC packs that have come out since it’s release. As does the Avenged Sevenfold and Pantera packs, and their constituent songs. Again, the users have spoken, and Ubisoft doesn’t seem to notice.
Not all of the DLC that RS releases are chart toppers. a number of their packs and singles are older tunes. RS actually has a very slim variety (across ALL genres) of new music. That’s something I can appreciate personally. I don’t care much for “modern music”. But their choices still boggle my mind. Marvin Gaye? The Temptations? Not bad songs but what aspiring or even experienced guitarist sits there thinking to him/herself “You know, I’d really like to be able to play the miniscule background guitar featured in ‘What’s goin’ on?’”. Maybe someone has. But they certainly aren’t a majority. People who play guitar want to play guitar. Not background music.
I appreciate your point James. Ubisoft is not beholden to my whims or really anyone elses. However if they really want to make a go of this (and they should, because it’s an amazing concept) then they should pay a bit more attention to what the people who are playing it think.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you entirely, but let me play Devil’s Advocate for a minute.
You say you’ve been to several forums where folks are requesting Lamb of God (and I’m just using them as the example, I completely understand that you’re not just talking about that one band) How many people are regular posters on those forums, even including overlap? A few hundred maybe? The number of people who own this game who never visit a forum far outweighs those who do, so to say that the same few people requesting the same few bands/songs across the same few forums represents the majority probably isn’t accurate. A lot folks don’t have any idea what that week’s DLC is until they turn on their Xbox Tuesday afternoon, and a lot of them see Fall Out Boy or The Strokes and say “Cool!” not “Where the hell is my Lamb of God???”
You also mentioned that you’ve never met any guitarist who wanted to play The Strokes, Blind Melon, etc. I do agree that the game is titled “Rocksmith” and not “Popsmith” or “R&Bsmith” so yeah, maybe they should have more metal, but I’m a guitarist (bassist actually) and I most certainly do want to play The Strokes and Blind Melon! I don’t think it’s fair to say nobody who owns this game wants to play popular songs off the radio like you mentioned, because there’s at least one!
I like being introduced to new music as much as the next guy (as an example, I’d never even heard of Jenny O before this game came out, but I really dig that song they have on here) but it’s just like going to a concert: What are the the 5 words nobody wants to hear at a concert? “And now for something new!” People at concerts want to hear what’s familiar to them, something they can sing along to. I think the same thing applies here. I wanna learn to play something I already know and like. Maybe I’m alone here, I can only speak for myself of course, but I know that when I’m playing a set in Rocksmith there’s nothing worse than when some song I’ve never heard of before comes up for the encore. I don’t know it, I don’t know how it goes, and I’m really not interested in learning it under the gun.
Your comment about Ubisoft needing to choose between being popular with the general public or with people who own this game is a little confusing to me. People who don’t own this game don’t know or care what songs are on it obviously, so I’d say that Ubisoft is indeed choosing what owners of the game want, even if it doesn’t seem that way to you. Of course they’re never going to make everybody happy all the time, so my guess is all they can do is go by what’s popular on the charts and on the radio. It’s kinda like some of these automotive forums I go to. Everybody complains that automakers don’t make performance wagons anymore. If automakers went by internet forums alone, all we’d have on the roads are 400hp AWD station wagons (and maybe Mazda Miatas) but they realize that, although their numbers may seem great, the number of regular forum posters actually works out to a relatively small percentage of the buying public.
Again, these are just my own personal thoughts and assumptions and I’m not saying you’re wrong, but honestly that’s the way I see it.
Perhaps I’m a bit overzealous in my pursuit of more metal. Ultimately my opinion has little or no influence on Ubisoft and their decision-making process anyway.
James, you make several very good points. First off, I haven’t met every guitarist (or bassist
) on earth, and so I can’t say that my own personal group of friends is by any means a majority. I also can say that, as well as yourself, RS has introduced me to music I otherwise would never have been interested in, or even aware of. For example, Otis Redding’s Sittin on the Dock of The Bay. A tune much before my time and honestly, I had never even heard of Otis Redding (shame on me) before that song was released. However I do greatly enjoy it, as well as many others from bands I never knew existed. I’m also not entirely opposed to some of the more “poppy” things that are released. I enjoy playing Finger 11, and I certainly love every classic song that is released (just got Carry On Wayward Son… Booyah!). But still there is a denial of the metal genre. We get:
1 Evanescence Song (and not even a particularly good one, but a popular one)
1 Lamb of God song (a rather peculiar one, as it’s neither popular nor one of their better tunes)
3 Pantera songs (arguably the best of the metal releases)
3 Avenged Sevenfold songs (Great if you’re 17)
Aaaand…well that’s it.
8 songs.
Compared to the total songs on/available for RS, not to mention the general scope of music, that’s kinda weak.
However in light of the points you made I’m willing to admit that RS is not solely responsible for my musical entertainment. That it is an engine far beyond my personal desires and that I better learn some patience.
Thanks James. For helping set my mind at ease. You may not have set out to do so but you’ve helped me realize that RS is more than a giant visual tabs book for my favorite songs. Even though I really wish it was
Cheers mate.
Not a fan of Judas Priest and Megadeth? That would make it 15 songs btw.
some of the more popular songs can’t be played in rocksmith. and much of pantera fits in that list. they dont support whammy bars, some harmonics, chord bending, and a multitude of other techniques required to play some of the more mainstream metal. Cemetery Gates is a great example of a song that just cannot be played in the way rocksmith intends: a ~95% accurate song (not sure precisely how accurate each song is to the real deal but they all sound spot on). personally i would love to see some System of a Down or even Bush or Metallica (i don’t see them selling licenses tho especially with megadeth in there already). all we can do is wait while they flesh out the library. right now it seems they are attempting to hit as many demographics as possible by touching on many genres.
Let me play Devil’s Advocate for a minute. [totally unrelated deleted statement -ed]
Alright, no requests but I will just go ahead and answer the question: I’M DESPERATELY WAITING FOR A SCORPIONS PACK!
HELL YES!!
I miss some of the tracks that were previously released on other band games, like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Beatles, don’t know why they weren’t released for this music game.
Did I say to make requests? No i didn’t.
Rundus, check one of the older posts on the hero feed, its giving reasons why some bands wont be on rocksmith anytime soon, or ever, due to copyrights or just that some members of the band just dont like music games.
Certain songs were already released for certainly less musical music games before. If Metallica would make a Guitar Hero game based on their music, why wouldn’t they authorize even one song for a game that actually teaches people to play their music on a real guitar?
A couple years ago, when Guitar Hero: Metallica was released, there was an interview in Game Informer with Lars Ulrich. In that interview he claimed an appreciation for Guitar Hero, and even said that he bought the game for his own children because he thought it was a great way to introduce them to musical instruments. To think that they would allow their music to be on Guitar Hero and not Rocksmith is absurd. Copyright is a more complex issue, but clearly the band members themselves have some say in the matter.
You’re right though Michael, there are some things we’ll never see on a music game of any kind. Like Pink Floyd. Sad as it is to someone like me, David Gilmour and Roger Waters seem to be convinced that their music is far too sacred to be “mutilated” by other people playing it. I find the idea offensive but that’s their prerogative.
Although Rundus’ point stands. Why is it that many songs appear on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but not on Rocksmith? Rock Band 3 has a song library of over 6000. If I could get a song list like that on Rocksmith my head might possibly explode.
You realize that there aren’t as many people playing Rocksmith as GH and RB, correct? Sometimes licensing fees are in absolute figures, and not as percentages, which means that Rocksmith might be required to sell more DLC downloads then is feasible to break even when it comes to the costs of licensing, producing the songs, and releasing them.
Comparing Rocksmith to Guitar Hero and Rockband and then complaining that Rocksmith hasn’t released the same songs as the latter two is promoting a false dichotomy.
Nice comments conor, fully agree. I buy most dlc to support the game, but if I was picky I’d only go for the heavier tracks..
But for the heavy music rocksmith ciuld released a pack each 3 month of metal popular . But not too harder song .
Boy, Derby wins one Slong championship and they never let you forget it!
I love Cult of Personality! I think it features one of the best solos of all time.
Burnin for You… OMG! I came. I was just learning to play that one. OMG!
There is as a custom song on PC.
Probably an obvious no, but will custom songs ever be available for consoles? I saw on another video it said “CUSTOM SONG BETA” at the top of the screen so I got a little hopeful that once beta is complete it may be available for consoles. I just don’t want to pay for pc version when I already put about 2 years of effort into the game on xbox.
What do you get when you type in rocksmith custom song xbox into google?
For me, it brings up a website called “smithyanvil” with instructions on how to make your own custom tracks that might as well be written in a foreign language for all the sense I could make out of it. I’m not really a computer guy, so if I were to enroll and take 3 semesters of computer programming in college I *might* be able to understand that program.
Only if you mod your XBox
Plus (for me anyway) I’d rather push that little button on the front of my Xbox and be jammmin out in front of my big ol’ TV in under 5 minutes rather than spending hundreds of dollars upgrading my PC to run Rocksmith, pray it even works when I do, and jam out in front of a 17″ monitor in my office.
FWIW Rocksmith plays on my $200 netbook. Any computer made in the last 5 years at least is going to be more powerful than the consoles, which is what Rocksmith is designed to. But to each his own.
SMASHING PUMPKINS!!!!!!!!!
Yes please! I think sometimes people overlook how good a guitarist Billy Corgan actually is, some of those SP tracks would be quite challenging I think.
You guys (Ubisoft) would make a killing if you programmed a DLC that let us make — and maybe upload — our own songs.
Alternatively, a DLC download/program that could read any song and translate it as a Rocksmith file would be a gold mine as well.
You can already make your own rocksmith songs. Not too sure about xbox or ps3 but it’s easy for PC
As awesome as it would be, I’m sure they’d run into copyright violations a’ plenty if they had a program that translated any song you ran through it into a playable Rocksmith track.
i bought rocksmith for xbox and every dlc released on xbox. I alsohad 2 buy a replacement real tone cable for one that broke… so i didnt feel too bad when i downloaded copy of game just to have on pc as well.(my pc is not that great and it runs game smooth) After looking for hints for next official dlc i happened upon aforementioned forum and let me tell you the custom songs are f-ing awesome. Many of the artists requested above are there, and many more including ones you will never see otherwise due to contractual obligations. I am a purist i only buy records i dont steal my music never have. If you think this is that then all i can say is i guess i make an exception here because the corporations let me down with their dlc and my only other option is the forum, and now i wont turn back its great and has breathed such an amazing breath of fresh air into rocksmith for me.
Thanks man these customs rock
