I really dig where Ubisoft is going with this. It’s not a setlist that hits on a lot of the major ‘hits’ but it is a setlist with a lot of great GUITAR songs that hits on an impressive range of technical guitar skills that they’re aiming to teach you.
Where Rock Band 3 fails is in the ‘teaching you guitar’ part, sure Pro Guitar on expert shows you where to put your fingers but it doesn’t really teach you much about playing guitar, it focuses on being a game first.
This really is more of a guitar training tool then a game and I’m really loving that. Listening to Burnished right now, can’t wait to give it a try!

Who picked these songs? Is this trying to be all things to everyone but country music fans? Are people paying this company to include their songs? I must be out of touch but I have never even heard of many of these bands. The Silversun Pickups? Have 20 people heard of this band, or I admit I may be that out of touch. This is a GUITAR game right, but no Hendrix, CSN, Zepplin, Floyd, and geez what about Angus Young and AC/DC? Maybe they are saving the real good stuff to sell as downloadable content. The game sounds awesome, but people like to play songs they know. Lastly, what about the Clash, Blondie, Dead Kennedys, and Ramones (No True punk)?
More popular artists demand more money for their tracks to be licensed in a game. Since Rocksmith is new, they probably needed to watch their budget more, not to mention that some artists, like Hendrix, have given exclusive rights to Rock Band, and others (Zeppelin and Floyd) have altogether avoided music games. Hopefully this game will do well to allow more legendary songs to be included!

Did you actually listen to these songs? They’re all examples of really great guitar playing. Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups) puts a ton of emotion into his playing that it practically oozes out of the speakers!
Sounds like you’re living in the past maaaan! I’d rather have a setlist like this full of hot modern rock bands then any of the acts you listed, not that I would crap all over a setlist that did I just wouldn’t be as psyced about the game.

Personally, I think most of this list completely blows. Very craptastic overall with a few nuggets here and there. Am i gonna buy this game? hell ya! day one purchase for sure. I don’t think this “game” is so much about the music itself, unlike guitar hero and Rockband, but more about what you can learn from it. I’ll learn all I can from it then play the songs I like on my own. Hopefully, there will be more songs of my personal tates available via DLC, along with bass support, later. but for now, these songs will have to do!
I actually thought they did a brilliant job picking this setlist. Not too many popular songs, but you can really see the different techniques and such that they want you to learn with each track. Very useful for a beginner like me. This game is great idea, can’t wait to see how it turns out.
They should put a bonus song of the band called Rocksmith on the disc so they can put down that stupid lawsuit and release the game in Europe as there is gonna be a hole lotta European fans who will need to import from the US and wont get the game on 18th ….grrr like me i already pre-ordered with game-stop but nope i wont get it in time

If they put country and rap and lady gaga crap into Rocksmith, like they did with ROCK Band, I will burn the ROCKsmith disc into a pile of molten plastic then urinate on it every day until ROCKSmith pays the ultimate price of going out of business for offending the ROCK GODS!

You do realize that the reason why the DLC for all types of music is still coming for RockBand (and hopefully RockSmith) is because not only YOUR music is in it, but others too?
I understand there is a pretty steep learning curve for coding songs for Rock Band. I’m sure nobody wants to spend months learning how to code up tracks and only release songs for the few hardcore players… If you look at track sales, do you spend 1 hour coding a pop song and make $5,000 or 8 hours coding Lamb of God and make $250??? I would guess a lot of the RBN coders do both…
One awesome game! I bought it because I myself play guitar already and hated all the crappy plastic guitar crappy games and this.. this is awesome! I must admit when I bought it I had low expectations, but hey! on 100% mastery most of the time on most songs you are playing THE SONG.. favourite track is Chris Lee – Boss .. such an epic track on 100% mastery it is fun as hell to play, loving the fusion licks
.. Future dlc I’d want would be some dream theater/petrucci/satch/vai/loomis/guthrie though! They need some sort of high level guitar setup since they are advertising it towards ALL levels 
and I don’t really like megadeath in all honesty. Still fun as hell! As a guitar player already learning a song on this is actually 50x quicker than by ear/tablature.. because you are watching while playing, best game i’ve bought in ages

I like and enjoy Rocksmith, too.
With that said, there’s a lot that needs to change in RockSmith. The menu structure is horrible, the store needs a revamp, the playlist is difficult to navigate, and has no sort option? What???
Yes it works with two guitars at once. Ever try playing two guitars on this? It doesn’t keep track of who is playing what guitar when a set or song ends…
Hope to see a much better RockSmith 2 out. My fear is it won’t last that long.
