February 2012 Activision/TheHeroFeed Community Nights

From the original announcement:

When Guitar Hero was put on indefinite hiatus, we here at The Hero Feed had a decision to make. Do we put the site on indefinite hiatus as well, or do we continue strong with the community. While we knew the lack of news would make it difficult to manage a Guitar Hero-based site, we’ve been a part of this community for several years now, and we know the strength and devotion that exists in this tight-knit group.

With that very idea in mind, we decided to keep the site as active as we could for the Guitar Hero community. While the numbers have dwindled slightly due to the lack of news, we’ve continued to be impressed with the people that keep up with the series and still play on a consistent basis. With that in mind, I am proud to announce that we will be continuing that notion of “community” through a new monthly Community Night.

We had mentioned that live events would be paramount for our #GHComm community nights going forward, and this month is no exception. There are some awesome tournaments going on to coincide with our already-planned Guitar Hero/DJ Hero community nights.

First, in San Jose, California, is Rockage. The festival is described as a “two day celebration of indie music and retro gaming,” and takes place on February 11th and 12th. Guitar Hero social media guy, Eric, will be on hand at the festival with swag and prizes during the tournament. A Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock tournament will take place on Saturday, with a DJ Hero 2 tournament happening on Sunday. The tournaments are set to be hosted by everyone’s favorite Guitar Hero goddess, StarSlay3r.

Community member Steve Rosa will also be hosting a Guitar Hero tournament in the Orlando, Florida area as a part of Project Storm: SURGE. The Guitar Hero tournament is set to kick off at 6pm, with a DJ Hero tournament happening afterwards if time permits.

In addition to all this, we will still be rocking online all weekend long. Check out the details of that below, and be sure to tweet using the hashtag #GHComm. This time, we’ll be giving away some sweet DJ Hero bundles to random #GHComm tweeters! Just talk about your time playing with us, or with friends during the weekend, and you’ll be entered to win!

Remember: The point of these community nights is to get more people online at a certain time to play games that thrive on people playing together. If you want to play Guitar Hero instead, go for it! Try to get more people online on whatever game you want to play by leaving a comment below with your Online ID, what console you’re going to be playing, and what game you want to play! That way, people can join you at the specified time!

You guys should hold European versions of these. I’d love to join in but playing drums at 1am GMT is likely to result in me getting beheaded by my neighbours.
