E3 Rumor: Guitar Hero Returning on Wii U

Look, we know that Guitar Hero has been pretty much smacked down for an undetermined period of time, but a new report is that Activision is planning to bring the series back at the latest on Nintendo’s freshly revealed console, the Wii U. The latest rumor comes from everyone’s favorite “industry analyst,” Michael Pachter.

According to Pachter, he was talking to “the guy who runs Guitar Hero” when the proverbial beans were spilled.

“I walked out with the guy who runs Guitar Hero. And I said, ‘I can’t believe that that’s not on Wii U, and he goes ‘It’ll be on Wii U, but we’re not gonna announce that yet.’ And so there you go.”

The report also claims that after that conversation, Pachter apologized to that source that he anonymously cited. The “guy” who apparently gave Pachter the information is only known as “Dave.” We pretty much knew that Hero would be making a return in 2012, as the hints dropped by Activision had the subtlety of a carpet bombing, but it’s always nice to hear more information and rumors in regards to Activision still thinking about our lovely little IP.

More information is sure to come soon, perhaps even at E3, since that still has plenty of time left before that wraps up. So does this give you hope for more Hero in the near future? How do you think Activision will utilize the power/features of the Wii U in order to capitalize upon the functionality of the new console?

The fact that Wii controllers (and thus Wii Guitar Hero instruments) will still work with Wii U makes this very appealing. No need to buy new instruments for a new console.

  2. Game!Ov3r says:

Now comes into question… will my 400+ DLC/Export songs work with the new system on a Wii U made GH game… that also comes into question for a possible future Rock Band game as well. (I have over 900 songs bought for that as well). I would be willing to pay a small transfer fee, but I refuse to buy the DLC all over again.

    • Game!Ov3r says:

Roadie Battles would be pretty cool using the controllers and not having to use a DS… kinda make it more like a soundboard for people that really are not into playing the instruments at parties, plus you could have your entire playlist show up on the controller kind of like they did with the DS.

      • Game!Ov3r says:

Another idea could be since it is a touch screen they could include the use of a keyboard on screen

        • KEWB says:

Is the touch-screen multiple-touch? If not then then you can forget about that idea. No polyphony would make for absolutely terrible keys gameplay.

But then again, the majority of hardcore players are on the XBOX360, and to a lesser extent, the PS3. We can only hope that the game doesn’t become console exclusive, otherwise the hardcore community might diminish

    “Dave’s not here man”

  5. Leonardo Storti says:

oh so that means guitar hero is only gonna be a Wii exclusive? I mean sure I love the fact that Guitar Hero will come back but if its gonna come back at least mention it will come back for other systems too. I mean if they were gonna make it a Wii exclusive they’re just asking for a beat down from the GH fans, and guitar Hero wont be considered hiatus but dead….

You don’t have to be a jackass.

He means why even bother making the series go on “hiatus” if they were going to continue the series the whole time.

    • Tan says:

      Two reasons.

One, publicity. No doubt the big ‘return’ game will make a hell of a lot more money than anything since around GH:M has.

Two, the money was running out. They needed to take a break, or they’d start making overall losses. No more DLC/games being released = no more new contracts and such to make and pay for.

yes i agree with you its pretty obvious that GH is just trying to get back on there feet from all this and returning for the WiiU i think its going to be great BUT if the graphics are better this time for the WiiU which i think will a good possibility it will.

  9. TRAVIS says:

PLEASE DO GUITAR HERO 3 FOR THE WII U AND PUT THE GOD OF ROCK AND THE GRIM REAPER AND MAKE THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA AS A SONG YOU CAN PLAY IN QUICKPLAY AND BE ABLE TO UNLOCK THE IMPOSSIBLE SONG
