Rumour: Dance Hero?!

Looks like there’s a new hero coming to town (it’s not “an hero” after you saw our image for this article).

You’d better watch yourself- because Activision looks like they want to “Serve You”

It’s on.

Kotaku reported that even though we all dismissed it as a silly joke that there is indeed headway being made on Dance Hero

Some of the songs we’ve heard have been slated (at least at this stage) for inclusion with the game include:

“2012” by Jay Sean (feat Nicki Minaj)
“Out Of Space” by The Prodigy.
“The Way I Are” by Timbaland (feat Keri Hilson and D.O.E.)
“Take Over Control” by Afrojack (feat Evan Simon)

While we don’t yet know what platforms the game would be appearing on, nor which studio is developing, we’d wager that between the PlayStation Move, Kinect and Wii Remote there’s enough motion control there for at least three versions of the game. This is Activision we’re talking about, after all!

What are my thoughts on this? Well for one “duh” and for another this could be an extremely smart move by Activision if they go cross-platform. Imagine if ATVI suddenly had a dance game that not only competed with Harmonix’s Dance Central but also tried to do battle with the Dance Overlord’s themselves… Ubisoft’s “Just Dance”.

Not to mention the untapped market on Playstation Move™ (which is getting Just Dance: Broadway later this year).

Also could it be possible that the talented people at FreeStyleGames may be working on this? I mean who better to select dance music then a bunch of DJs familiar with the club scene?

The deciding factor of the success of this game though?

Will it have Bieber.

Only time will tell.

UPDATE:

Looks like this just got interesting…

wtf…now they are trying to copy Dance Dance Revolution?….please don’t tell me you killed off GH just because of this, I swear to god, I hate dancing and I’m not gonna get a video game that will make me dance screw that crap, if I want to dance I’ll go to DDR

  5. Leonardo Storti says:

and if Bieber is in the game, all the more reason why I would not buy it!…I wouldn’t even want to see it

Is this is true, the reason why Activision are doing this? Here:

“Just Dance had sold 4.3 million worldwide, making it the second-highest selling Wii game from a third-party publisher behind Ubisoft’s sequel, Just Dance 2 which has sold 5 million.”

And that’s just on the WII. Now imagine if Activision could capture those types of sales and revenue, but on all three consoles, which is what I’m expecting that they are aiming for.

Band games are out and dance games are in, it seems.

Shame that the “Hero” franchises couldn’t be Activision’s equivalent to Konami’s Bemani franchises so that they could keep them all going.

I’d love to have both Guitar and Dance Hero together, so long as the latter was good, so I could have the best of both worlds. I’ve always wanted to know how Activision would tackle a dance game on the Wii and if they could do a better job than Konami have.

Went to the Royalty Network site to verify, and now there’s no mention of Dance Hero. Interesting. Wonder if that was an unintentional leak.
