Mystery Solved: What the Guitar Hero II Newspaper Says

In quite possibly the strangest story we’ve ever covered, it seems as though a completely random Google search by a completely random non-ScoreHero member, has led to ScoreHero.com discovering what the fine print below the headline in the Guitar Hero II results page says.

Not only can the article (left) be somewhat deciphered, but it can be traced back to an actual newspaper article from 2004.

Members of ScoreHero collaboratively figured out the message to the extent of:

____ says it was by coincidence the band got the opportunity to travel to ____. Another band was ___ to ___ at the last ___ could’ve hit ___ his band were offered the opportunity to go to their ____.

With ____ trepidation they ___ their first trip and with the overwhelming response they received at

(score)

“Deadly Murphys” an Irish pub located in the heart of a ___ ___. Upon checking this establishment out, they discovered a real ___ Irish pub with ____ ____ and good pub grub. It also happened to

(tape)

the band ___

The real story (below, starting in the middle of the second column) was discovered by ScoreHero member, mcat, who admittedly joined just to post this. According to him, “[I] was [G]oogling and i came across this thread and how strangely familiar it was to an article i had just came across.”

We don’t know why he happened to be Googling a random newspaper article from March of 2004, or better yet, why Harmonix would include such an article on the score page, but we’re glad that we can all sleep better knowing what it says below our scores in Guitar Hero II.

    • DucksFAN says:

I don’t understand this. What is so important about the GHII newspaper?

      • KEWB says:

Nothing really. But don’t you find it somewhat odd that the text is actually decipherable? The fact that the text was taken out of an actual newspaper article is even weirder.

        • DucksFAN says:

Not really. I never played GHII and I’m glad I didn’t. I especially wouldn’t care what the newspapers said. Gee, you guys really care about that? Why not try to learn about upcoming DLC, games, controller info, fixes for the brokien DLC packs, etc. I realize that those are tall orders, why not do that than try to decipher insignificant newspaper articles from a 5 year old game. Or even better, listen to Atreyu, Disturbed, A7X, Bullet For My Valentine, or Alter Bridge; OR, here’s a novel idea, play. Guitar. Hero. Warriors. Of. Rock.!!!

BTW, this is not pointed at you KEWB, so don’t feel you have to retaliate. Peace.

Because we’re a Guitar Hero/DJ Hero based site, we report on all Guitar Hero/DJ Hero based news and developments.

Also, why would you be glad you never played what many people consider to be the best game in the series?

          • DucksFAN says:

The reason I’m glad I never played GHII is simple: #1.) Master recordings? Ever heard of em’? #2.)Short song list. #3.) Ruined A7X, Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nirvana, STP, and Ozzy with covers. Yeah, I can see why GHII is the best in the series. Not.

          • FrankieB says:

DucksFan while I understand your point, the fact remains that many fans of the Guitar Hero series since its inception are also frequent visitors of TheHeroFeed and have discussed strange mysteries such as the newspaper text for quite some time now. The article merely caters to that audience.

And personally, for a very long time GH2 was the best in my opinion, but Warriors of Rock has taken that title for me!

          • DucksFAN says:

OK, thank you for your explanation FrankieB, that makes sense. If the readers/vistors wanted to know what the papers said than that is good accomodation by you guys. Also, I meant no harm in putting down GHII, I have respect for basically every GH game, it’s just that I thought, personally, that GHII was the weakest looking game. I never did play it.

          • Groudon199 says:

You might not realize this, but the topic that this info came from was made 3 years ago. It wouldn’t have been possible to play GH:WoR at the time.

mcat really has a lot of free time… or is simply weird
anyways its funny because I tried to read it a couple of times back in the PS2 days

  4. Boomsars says:

DucksFan, I really suggest playing the game before you trash it. It’s easily my favorite Guitar Hero game and probably will be forever. Granted, I started with the game so I’m a little (lol) biased, but judging by the way you totally dissed the covers, I’ll say you either started with GH3 or World Tour. First off, there are several songs with covers in GH2 that I far prefer to the actual recordings for one reason or another. Yes, there are bad covers, but I’d say there are a lot more good covers than bad covers (and the Hangar 18, STP, and Bark at the Moon covers are ballin’).

Also “short song list.” GH2 had almost 20 more songs than the previous rendition, and the 360 version had MORE songs than GH3 and Rock Band (not including DLC, although GH2 was the first GH game with DLC).

Finally, the interface is much (in my opinion) simpler and cleaner than any GH game to date. I’m not saying I would play WoR more if it had GH2’s interface, but I would probably enjoy it more.

tl;dr, play the fucking game. It’s much better than you give it credit for and is highly regarded for a wide variety of reasons. It’s a little outdated now, yeah, but it’s four years old in a market that moves very quickly.

    • DucksFAN says:

I don’t care “how good” the covers are. They’re still covers, not the actual thing and that pisses me off. I’m not bashing GHII cause its old, and it probably was “groundbreaking” as you say. Did you not read my previous post? I said I realize that my ass spoke earlier. “Also, I meant no harm in putting down GHII, I have respect for basically every GH game, it’s just that I thought, personally, that GHII was the weakest looking game. I never did play it.” That is what my post said, so get off my ass.

  5. Cactaur says:

\m/ to Boomsars! GH2 was exceptionally awesome, especially back when it first came out. And yes, Wavegroup did some pretty darn good covers sometimes. The Romantics actually threatened to sue them once because they thought that their cover of “What I Like About You” on GH 80’s was too close to the real thing. Plus, most of those guitar covers were done by Marcus Henderson, a professional guitarist who was a member of Drist (whom had bonus songs on the first two games) and done instructional videos. When you bash the covers DucksFan, you bash him as well. Besides, the bonus songs were all masters, and don’t you dare say that they sucked, especially since you didn’t play the game. Buckethead’s “Jordan” is by far one of the hardest songs in the series, possibly right after “Through the Fire and Flames”. The one point I will give to DucksFan is the cover for “Beast and the Harlot”. I distinctly remember that one as being bad.

    • DucksFAN says:

I wasn’t going to say that they sucked. Especially since Atreyu was available as DLC for that game (Something Warriors of Rock REALLY NEEDS). The bonus songs were all masters, of that I was aware, and I did not bash them. Did you even read my post? Secondly, I did not deny that they game was hard, I didn’t even mention difficulty, so I’m not sure why you brought it up. I did not bash the guitarist who covered the songs, did I? I don’t think so! I HATE COVERS, not the people who cover them, as I am sure the guitarist/band have mad skills. Is it so much to say I like GH:WT, GH:WOR, GH:III, and GH:SH. OH! GH:SH is on my favorites list! How can that be? I “hate” GH:II, yet most of the songs on the game are GH:II songs, but are the original versions. Geez, guys chill out.
